Executive Council

President: Patrick VanBernum Patrick

Patrick VanBernum is a fourth-year student studying Urban Planning and Design at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, with a minor in Leadership Skills in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. While being an active member of the Glee Club, Patrick also enjoys playing ukulele and guitar with his friends, playing different sports with his friends, and meeting new people at different social events. This is his second year serving on the Executive Board for The Glee Club and he is very excited to lead the members to a great European Tour! Always looking towards the future, Patrick wants to foster the leadership and creativity of new officers and members. He hopes to pave a path for young members in the group to take over leadership roles eventually and, as long as he is a member, will never stop trying to make the club better.

AxelBusiness Manager: Axel Gonzalez

Axel Gonzalez is a junior in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences studying Environmental Business and Economics. Outside of Glee Club, Axel holds a retail position as a part-time stylist where he enjoys working with clients and building relationships. Axel also works alongside entrepreneurs who run independent businesses to gain experience and explore business opportunities. As business manager for the Rutgers University Glee Club, Axel aims to give back to the organization by ensuring that the group’s business matters are handled and running smoothly.

DexterTreasurer: Dexter Cheng

Dexter Cheng is a junior in the School of Communication & Information pursuing a degree Information Technology & Informatics with a Specialization in Game Production and Innovation as well as a Music minor. Being a California native from the suburbs of Fremont in the Bay Area, he found himself jumping head first into the Rutgers experience when he decided to audition for the Rutgers University Glee Club. After being welcomed with open arms, he immersed himself in the culture and camaraderie of the Glee Club. He firmly believes that the Glee Club has been an instrumental part of his development as an individual and young professional. As Treasurer, Dexter manages the finances of the Glee Club. As an active member, Dexter enjoys getting to know the members of the Glee Club as well as supporting them in times of need. In doing so, he hopes to help keep the organization running smoothly and create an amicable social culture so that current and future members may enjoy the same opportunities for growth that he has had.

GabrielVice-Pesident of Alumni Relations: Gabriel Berrios

Gabriel Berrios (Gabe) is a Senior taking the scenic route (just to go on tour again?). He is a majoring in Sport Management with a minor Labor and Employment Relations. While he was never really into choral music as an adolescent, the Rutgers University Glee Club has changed his opinion on that as a young adult. Since joining his freshman year he knew this would be something special in his life if not for the phenomenal performances he’s gotten to be a part of then the extracurricular events such as Soup Bowl where he was the head coach and Quarterback to the 2016 Glee Club team that cruised to a 39-7 victory last year. While he never thought he’d run for a council position during his time in the Glee Club he is honored to have been elected by his peers to be the liaison between the current membership and the Alumni.

Vice-President of Special Organizational Affairs: Angel Cardozo

Angel Cardozo has been singing Tenor I in the Glee Club since his freshman year, and is ecstatic to be contributing to the organization in its 145th year as one of its Vice Presidents. He is especially excited to be holding his position during a tour year in which the RUGC will be going overseas to sing in various European countries. Angel discovered his love of singing in the sixth grade, when his choir teacher encouraged him to pursue a solo part in the school’s spring concert. Graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan High School in 2013, where he was a member of the Symphonic Choir and the Chamber Choir, today Angel is a senior studying English and Creative Writing in the School of Arts and Sciences, and aspires to earn a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Angel is extremely grateful for the opportunities that the Glee Club has provided him. From his first performance with the Glee Club at the opening of Mortenson Hall to their most recent performance at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, Angel has cherished every moment spent with his Brothers in Song, and hopes to serve them well as their Vice President of Special Organizational Affairs.

Junior Officers

Executive Secretary: Joseph Negro

Joseph C. Negro is a junior majoring in Environmental Policy, Institutions, & Behavior in the School of Environmental & Biological Sciences at Rutgers New Brunswick. He is proud to be a Bass II, the Soup Bowl running back, and a member of the Rutgers University Glee Club. Outside of the RUGC, Joseph is an advocate for Scouting and environmental stewardship, having achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America and currently working at the Florida Sea Base High Adventure Camp. He hopes to bring the leadership and organization skills he has obtained via Scouting and utilize them to assist in the timely and efficient function of the 2017-18 RUGC Council.

Music Manager: Jonathon Dawson

Jonathon Dawson is a Senior studying Vocal Performance at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. In addition to his active membership in Glee Club, Jonathon also sings with the Kirkpatrick Choir and is involved with Rutgers Opera and the Livingston Theater Company. After several years of singing in the Glee Club as a Baritone, Jonathon will now be taking on the role of Music Manager to help ensure that the ensemble functions at a high level.

Historian: Todd Jay

Todd Jay is a current sophomore at Rutgers University and is studying Marketing at the Rutgers University Business School. This is going to be Todd's second year in the Rutgers University Glee club. Aside from his love of music, Todd participates in the Glee club because of it's wonderful community of talented and passionate people. Todd is very excited to be the historian for the Glee Club and is looking forward to an amazing year with his brothers in song.

Public Relations Manager: David Dizdari

David Dizdari is a sophomore in the Business School studying Finance and Marketing with a double major in Art History through the School of Arts and Sciences. David has been an active musician for most of his teenage years and is thrilled to have found a home within the Tenor II section. Aside from his time in the Glee Club, he is also heavily involved with the Livingston Theatre Company as Graphic Designer and is deeply passionate about design, poetry, and helping others. Through his role as PR Manager, he hopes to inform people about the amazing phenomenon that is the Rutgers University Glee Club and represent the organization in a way that gets people excited about the work all of the members put into every performance.

Performance Manager: Kyle O’Brien

Kyle O’Brien, from Pequannock, NJ, is a senior and a Mathematics major in the School of Arts and Sciences, and was recently accepted into the Rutgers Graduate School of Education’s 5 Year Masters Program for Math Education in the hopes of becoming a high school math teacher and eventually a curriculum writing. He graduated from Pequannock Township High School in 2014. Kyle had never been in a choir prior to his time at Rutgers, however he was a devoted member of his high school’s marching band, as well as multiple theatre companies, including Aspire Performing Arts Company. Kyle is in debt to his Brothers in Song for giving him so many incredible memories, and he looks forward to many more in the future.

Uniform Manager: Alfonse Gaite

Alfonse Gaite is a junior in the School of Arts & Sciences as well as the inaugural Honors College Class of 2019. He intends to major in Cell Biology & Neuroscience and minor in Cognitive Science and Music. Prior to college, Alfonse indulged in his love for singing by participating in choir throughout all his years in public school. Alongside enjoying music through Glee Club and personal endeavors, Alfonse enjoys traveling with family around the world. As Uniform Manager and proud member of the Rutgers University Glee Club, Alfonse hopes to ensure that its members are well dressed and well prepared for an exciting year and summer tour.

Information Technology Coordinator: Nathaniel Persad

Nathaniel Persad is a junior in the School of Communication & Information pursuing a degree in information technology and informatics. Nathaniel sings bass II in the Glee Club and is very proud of the amazing music that he is able to make with this world-class ensemble. He is looking forward to using his technological skills to help the Glee Club as Information Technology Coordinator and is looking forward to a great year with his brothers in song.
